Just giving some news

Hello folks! I have been quite busy lately and will probably be until September, as I am currently working on my final assignment for my translation masters and, yeah, that takes time.

I plan to continue my Trianthology reviews, and also to review the 4th and final volume of Hotarubi, but I don’t know when yet. So stay tuned!

PS: I’m kinda happy that even after the series ended, the TV Tropes page of Umineko continues to be one of the most complete and best-maintained on the entire wiki (among Visual Novels anyway), with regular edits… Gives you some hope, doesn’t it!

Hotarubi no Tomoru Koro ni Chp 7 thoughts (spoilers below)

Terumi is the actual worst right now. I guess because it’s horror, there’s got to be that one person who is terrible and does everything wrong. Okay, sure, you’re distressed over your dad’s death but. Chill. You’re the one who’s contributing the least. Giving Yukito shit doesn’t help matters at all because WE’RE ALL GOING TO STARVE TO DEATH SOON NOBODY’S HAPPY WITH THIS ARRANGEMENT

Looks like the time frame for this story will be pretty short unless they are able to find more safe food. It’s quite a different spin than Higurashi and Umineko since they are struggling to survive rather than trying to solve a mystery. Also the mystery is blatantly supernatural.

Theory as to how the dead guy is “alive”. I’m going to say that for the people who die Hell, their souls remain in their bodies so the bodies aren’t able to completely die. Maybe after “dying”, they lose their sanity over time and become the monsters.

Where the heck is Takano staying? She’s definitely been around in Hell for longer than they have. She can’t possibly have enough food in that backpack.

I bet this all happened because somebody didn’t wash their damn hands.

I read Hotarubi no Tomoru Koro ni since I was feeling nostalgic for umineko, and it was.... bad. I see where they were going with the general sentiment of "traditions exist for a reason", and I was approaching the manga with the general "everything is explainable" sentiment, which was a mistake I think. Rereading umineko or ciconia might've been more worthwhile... Hotarubi had the general vibes of something rushed and not fully developed.

Maybe I would've been better off starting rose gun days... but the setting doesnt really interest me, and trianthology and that one moe game aren't translated.. I'm not really in the mood to exert my braincells to translate ryukishi's writing which is a bit, characteristic,?

I was really in the mood for some horror after reading and really loving Shibito no Koe who Kiku ga Yoi, but hotarubi was sadly a real miss.

Maybe I'll sit down and finally read Shizuku by leaf instead.

Finished The Only Good Indians and that last part had my stomach in knots! I was just begging for the book to rip the bandaid off lol. The suspense was so good. I’ve also had my eye on another one of his books, Night of the Mannequins. Now I can read Hotarubi no Tomoru Koro ni. Then maybe I’ll read Umineko no Naku Koro ni. The .hack//Epitaph of Twilight novel is still being fantranslated (and may have been abandoned....) and there are other .hack novels on my list I wanna read. And Hellstar Remina by Junji Ito has caught my attention so lol. So much to read.
